Spacious and sustainable farmhouse in Heiloo with large garden

THE UNIQUE STORY, TOLD BY THE HOUSE OWNER
This North Holland farmhouse built in 1876 is built on a wooden structure, which the homeowner says is a great building material. He has taken the step of making the farm completely sustainable. Where it used to be heated by the cattle in the middle of the farmhouse, it was done with coal, then oil and then gas. Today, everything in the farmhouse is electric. The 15, 000 kWh of electricity required for this is obtained via solar panels. The thatched roof already provided a lot of insulation but another metre of insulation with PIR plates has been added, the windows are all made of HR++ insulation glass, the central heating is wood-fired and the lighting consists of LED lamps.
Because there is room for 20 people, it is popular with larger families and groups of friends. Because of the enormous garden there is enough space to enjoy being outside. Despite being an 'old' farm, the interior has a very spacious and modern design in which a number of authentic details have been retained.
Many people who come here explore the surroundings. Here, you are close to the North Sea beach and on the other side you will find the Markermeer lake. It is easy to cycle to the beach and through the natural dunes, but the city of Alkmaar, with its famous cheese market, is also nearby. In the spring, the flower fields in this area are, of course, not to be missed. The house is equipped with super fast WiFi because there is now fibre optic cable in the outskirts of Noord-Holland. This is very important because nowadays everyone brings telephones and tablets on holiday.
The owners are proud to mention the farm has zero impact on the environment, the heating of the water is done by means of phase transformation material. A 10-kilogram block of salt that solidifies from a liquid to a solid when there is a demand for hot water. This is done by stopping the ions moving with an electric signal. This entire process provides enough energy to bring 280 litres of water to a temperature of 70 degrees. A simple concept but oh so effective and it requires absolutely no maintenance.
